PTRA Performance Street Rules for 2009

 

Performance Street
 

1.  This eliminator is designed for American made cars and trucks with the word “budget” strongly infused.  Corporate relationship must be maintained with regards to engine, i.e. GM in GM, Ford in Ford, Chrysler in Chrysler.  NO power adders allowed-naturally aspirated only.  No fuel injected entries, carbureted only.  Entries will qualify as a sixteen car field and be placed on a pro style ladder first round.  If 25 or more cars, then the field will be set on a 32 car ladder.  All drivers will be expected to alternate lanes during the two rounds of qualifying.

2.  Stock suspension only.  Very limited modifications allowed.  No anti-roll bars, no coil over conversions on rear.  Bottom of shock mounting position may be moved over on leaf spring vehicles for tire clearance.  Leaf springs may be moved over for tire clearance.  Mild "wheel tubbing" is allowed for tire clearance.  Traction bars and cal-tracks are legal with use of a standard production type leaf spring.  Adjustable control arms are allowed on factory 4-link cars.  Air bags are permitted.  Front suspension must remain stock type for vehicle.  Adjustable shocks such as Lakewood, Comp Engineering or QA-1 are permitted.  Aftermarket bolt on K-members and front clips such as Smith Race Crafter are permitted if they retain the OEM configuration (i.e. control arms).  NO wheelie bars permitted. 

3.  Gasoline or E85 only.  4150 style carb only.  All entries will be required to run a 4-hole plate (1.5" holes) under the carburetor.  Big block entries may run a 1/2 " spacer between carb and plate for butterfly clearance.  Small block entries will be allowed to run up to 1" total of spacer.  The PTRA will supply the carb plate.  Racers may be required to switch plates at any given time at an event.  No modifications are allowed to be made to restrictor plates.

4.  Dual plane intake required.  No other type of intake will be allowed.  No modifications to intake allowed other than gasket match.  No epoxying of runners, etc.  No air gap style allowed.  No “tunnel” under the plenum area.  Edelbrock Performer, Performer RPM, Weiand Action Plus, Weiand Stealth, Holley Dual Plane, Professional Products equivalent, or stock OEM dual plane are the ONLY accepted intakes allowed. No Edelbrock Air Gap, Holley Street Dominator, Weiand Stealth Air Strike, or any Dart, World Products or Brodix intakes allowed. 

5. Minimum weight requirements:  Big block entries-3400 pounds, small block entries-3100 pounds.  Big block max cubic inch allowed is 470.  Max small block cubic inch allowed is 420.   100 pounds will be deducted for a clutch style manual transmission.  No clutchless manuals allowed.  (Jerico type permitted).  Deduct 100 pounds for cast iron cylinder head entries.  Small block entries with cubic inches of 365 or less may deduct 100 pounds.  

6.  Any conventional, OEM style, readily available, out of the box cylinder head is permitted.  Porting is permitted.  Aluminum heads are allowed.  If stock type dual plane intake will fit WITHOUT any spacers or modification, then the cylinder head will be deemed legal, as long as it is conventional in design (i.e. no 18 degree heads on SBC).  Intakes cannot be cut and put back together.   Ford 302 intake may be used with intake spacers to fit on Windsor deck height long blocks.   Stock OEM cast iron blocks only.  No dry sump.  No vacuum pumps.

7.   No programmable style ignition boxes allowed.  Only 2-step or 3-step will be allowed.  No retard functions permitted.   No traction contol devices or timers.  Transbrakes are permitted.  No air or electric shifters allowed.  No data logger systems allowed.  No sensors and/or wires allowed that transfer any data related to wheel or spindle speed, or driveshaft/yoke speed. 

8.  Twenty-four inches in length of 2.5 inch exhaust pipe is required at the end of the exhaust system (each side).  Any manufactured full length muffler is required on each side.  All systems must be completely closed with all exhaust being exited through the 2.5 section of pipe on each side.  No cut-outs or exhaust leaks.

9.  Working tail lights mandatory and must be used at night.  Approved helmet required.  Minimum 6-point roll bar is required.  It is highly recommended for all machines to have a 10 point.  Fire jacket, long pants, driveshaft loop, two front seats and carpeted floor required.  No forward facing hood scoops or any type of air induction system that receives fresh air from the front or sides of the vehicle.  A sealed off rear exit cowl hood is permitted.  All IHRA safety requirements for time run will be adhered to.  External battery disconnect at rear of car is required and must be labeled.   

10.  Maximum size tire allowed is a M/T 26 X 11.50 ET Street tire.  This tire measures 26 x 10.   Hoosier Quick Time Pro, M&H Cheater Slick or 275/50 drag radial DOT tire allowed and other manufacturer's equivalent as long as they measure the same or smaller than the M/T part # 3753 or 3753R.  Maximum ten inch wide wheel. 

11.  PTRA reserves the right to amend rules as needed to maintain the integrity, fairness, and purpose of this class if any combination routinely outperforms all others.  If needed, restrictor plates may be altered to keep a level playing field.  Any competitor found to be illegal during any type of spot check will be subject to suspension and will forfeit all winnings.
